The camera, still attached to the mount, is wedged atop the half-folded-down passenger side visor. The camera ends up mounted upside-down, so images have to be rotated later.
To do the rotation, I just used ImageMagick. It was as easy as:

The firewire cable runs into the back seat and into my powerbook. The computer is running KeyCamX, a simple image capture program that adds the datestamp and can save images to disk named with the date stamp.
A simple bash while loop attempts to scp the latest image to my webserver. The network is configured to attach to any signal it can, so if we get near enough to wireless, it should be able to send up a picture. This never actually happened though, which...

The computer is powered by a Kensington portable power inverter plugged into the car's cigarette lighter.
As I discovered last fall, leaving the inverter plugged in for too long while the car is not running will kill your battery, even if nothing is plugged into it. So unplug it when you get out of the car.
