There were more than 150 people racing this time, which meant a steady stream of big wheels rolling down the hill.

Many of the riders had video or still cameras attached to their helmets. This guy carried his.

Bail

I saw this a few times: a few people so overwhelmed they jumped off onto the sidelines.

About to crash

Crashes were happening constantly. Every tiny bit of debris in the road became a deadly obstacle.

The ascent

After each race, participants would hike back up the middle of the street, usually carrying bikes over their shoulders or hoisted into the air.

Clearly a bit less restricted. With experience under their belts, people were more likely to ignore the breaks.

If you look carefully in this picture, you can see Cooper and Ellie in the back.

Two Wheels Down, Bud Light in Hand

This guy reminded me of Choi Boi.

Frank and Beans

The shocked look is because this guy wasn't wearing and underpants under his kilt. As he rolled down the hill, he must have flashed at least a hundred people.

I had my camera in continuous shutter mode for most of the race, so I snapped eight pictures of this before realizing what had happened.

After the second race, I guess the Marios got distracted, and had to race back to the top at the last second.

Wipe Out

Continuous shutter is great for crashes.

By the third race, people were confident to actually start bumping and pushing each other. Reminded me of roller derby.

I don't think that's how it works.

The fellow on the right loses his front wheel (out of frame) and does an immediate ass plant.

This was the one crash I saw that really honestly looked like it hurt. The gent on the left face planted right in front of his own wheel and sort of ran over his own face.

Lego man's head turned sideways by the crash.
